About Us

Our mission is to promote the welfare of the residents of Uganda.

“For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me.”

– Matthew 25:35

The project to provide potable water to rural villages in Uganda began with a vow. Fr. Peter Ssekajugo was born and raised a Catholic in the village of Kimbekuto near the equator. His village had no water source other than a seasonal stream and some ponds that cattle and goats drank from. Many children in his family and village died from diseases from that water. As he grew in body and spirit, he vowed to bring water to his village someday. And finally, like the vows he took in his ordination as a Catholic Priest, his vow to drill a water well in Bethlehem village became his life’s mission.

In 2016, after his 18 year assignment as a Consolata missionary in Colombia, he was sent to California as a priest in Riverside’s Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church. There, he was asked and he answered many questions from curious members about his home in Africa. The fact that he survived his childhood astounded those hearing about and seeing pictures of the conditions he described.

Members held raffles and fiestas to raise money for a well and soon enough money raised to pay for a solar powered well. By 2018, plans were made to drill a well in his village. With one member of the church who specialized in solar power water pumps, he traveled back to Uganda and the project – now named “Uganda-St. Bruno Water and Energy Project” – was born. A 200 meter deep well – energized by solar power – was drilled in Kimbekuto. With no affordable electricity, a water pump powered by the sun brings up potable water. Clean precious water is available for over 400 people living in the village. That initial project then evolved into 9 more wells being drilled in the region with donations from church parishioners. Now the goal is to drill 100 wells in nearby rural villages by 2028. To expand the opportunities available to the local people.
