Much of the 2024 activities of the Uganda-St Bruno Water and Energy Project (USBWEP) centered outside Uganda. In February, our founder and leading light, President Duncan Webb, died after some months battling cancer. He literally was directly involved in every aspect of the effort. He founded the organization with Fr. Peter SSegajuko. As an attorney he established its legal status with the state of California and our bylaws. He led fund-raisers through his home parish of St. Francis de Sales in Riverside, California USA. He personally supervised the drilling of many of the wells we have drilled. His passing was a great setback.
The best way we current members of USBWEP can honor Duncan and his vision to provide Ugandan villagers with accessible water is to carry on in his name.
It was necessary to backtrack and re-establish USBWEP with the California Registry of Charitable Trusts because its 501-c status had lapsed and annual fees of less than $150 had to be paid. USBWEP also shifted from its original bank because it had issues wiring money to Uganda. We now bank with Citibank which has an established presence in Uganda. In January 2025, the transfer of funds to make a maintenance check on two Ugandan wells went flawlessly.
